A primary school headmaster, William Agoke, on Monday slumped at the Eco Bank Plc, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, while waiting in queue to receive his salary.

Our correspondent gathered that Agoke heads a primary school at Azuzuama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of state.

He was said to have collapsed out of exhaustion outside a sultry banking hall after a long wait to collect his August salary.

Our correspondent gathered that the headmaster was among many other teachers who besieged the bank and spent several hours to receive their salaries.

He was said to have travelled for about two hours before arriving at the bank in the morning where he met many others waiting.

One of the teachers told our correspondent that their predicament was compounded by the bank’s slow service delivery.

The teacher who refused to mention his name, however, said the headmaster who was about 50 years old collapsed outside the banking hall.

“He was in a queue with us for a long time. He felt dizzy and decided to go outside for a while. But immediately he came outside, he collapsed”, he said.

He added that the development caused tension among the teachers who tried to revive him.

“We couldn’t revive him but we arranged for him to be taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, for treatment. We pray that he recovers,” he said.

He said that the service was slow and appealed to the bank to create more payment points to reduce the queue.

Our correspondent who visited the place observed that the banking hall was so congested that teachers were allowed to form a separate queue outside.

But some of the employees of the bank refused to comment on the development insisting that they were not authorised to speak to the media.
