Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has filed a lawsuit against Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), seeking N30 billion in damages.
The legal action comes after Rollas allegedly made comments that harmed her reputation and career. Abubakar claims these statements caused her emotional distress and financial loss, impacting her opportunities in the film industry.
The lawsuit follows an incident on October 17, 2024, when the AGN, via Rollas’ social media, announced her indefinite suspension from the guild. The suspension was linked to accusations that Abubakar spread false rumors about extramarital affairs involving prominent figures in Nollywood.
Abubakar, however, expressed shock at the suspension, stating she was not informed or given a chance to defend herself before it was made public. She said the accusations have damaged her reputation and questioned the professionalism of the guild.
Her legal team, P.D. Pius & Associates, criticized Rollas for choosing this moment—while Abubakar is recovering from long-term health issues—to make false claims. They demanded the removal of the post, a public apology on Instagram, and N30 billion in compensation. If these demands aren’t met within seven days, they plan to proceed with legal action.
