One police officer was on Monday killed while several others were injured when suspected sect member attacked three police stations in Sokoto State, Nigeria’s North West region.
According to eye witnesses, a suicide bomber drove a bomb rigged car and attacked the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in the city at Marina.
Another bomber attacked the Unguwar Rogo police station. The casualty figure in the second attack is still unknown.
A local police officer, who does not want his name mentioned, confirmed the attack at the AIG’s office. He also gave the name of the slain police officer as Constable Suleiman Danjuma.
The anonymous policeman said three other officers were injured in the attack and that they have been taken to an unknown hospital for treatment.
No official statement has been released to confirm the blast.
An official statement is expected soon following an ongoing meeting at the Central Police Station between the AIG, whose office was badly hit, and the Director General, Press and Media of Sokoto state, Hassan Maccido.
The bomb affected the East Wing of the station which houses the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police.
