The Joint Task Force(JTF) on Sunday in Maidguri said it killed 20 suspected members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram in a raid on its hideout.
The raid on the hideout took place after an anonymous caller tipped the command of the JTF that some members of the outlawed sect were holding a meeting at the undisclosed location.
According to Colonel Victor Ebhaleme, field operations officer of the military and police mixed Joint Task Force in Borno.
“When we approached the venue of their meeting point, the terrorists opened fire on the JTF, which led to the killing of 20 terrorists while we lost one soldier and two others sustained injury,” Reuters quoted him as saying.
Another source disclosed that as the JTF officers approached the venue, the sect members opened fire; killing one soldier while two others sustained injuries.
But according to the source, the military officers fought back and the gun duel led to the killing of all the sect members in the meeting. .
