Guinness World Records has officially recognized Nigerian chef Hilda Baci for setting a new milestone: the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.
The announcement came only days after her ambitious cooking event captured massive attention on social media and beyond.
“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria,” the organization wrote on its X (formerly Twitter) account.
How the event unfolded
The record-breaking feat took place on September 12, 2025, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. Baci, already celebrated for her 2023 Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon set out to achieve another remarkable goal.
Supported by leading brands and cheered on by celebrities such as Funke Akindele, Enioluwa, Tomike, Pastor Idowu, and Bamidele Abiodun (wife of the Ogun State Governor), she prepared what is now the largest pot of jollof rice ever documented.
Mixed reactions, enduring impact
While thousands applauded her success, a few attendees questioned the taste of the meal, sparking lively online debates. Regardless of the differing opinions, the scale of the event reaffirmed Baci’s status as one of Nigeria’s boldest and most record-breaking culinary figures.
Expanding her legacy
With two Guinness World Records in less than three years, Hilda Baci continues to elevate Nigerian cuisine on the global stage, inspiring young Africans to pursue their ambitions fearlessly.
