The governor of the southern Yemeni city of Aden has been killed in a large explosion, security sources say.
A convoy carrying Jaafar Mohammed Saad was hit in the Tawahi area of the port city.
Houthi rebels based in northern Yemen have seized much of the country, including the capital Sanaa.
Earlier this year Aden was recaptured by government troops backed by a Saudi-led coalition.
Security sources said several members of Mr Saad’s entourage also died in the attack.
The latest violence comes as the UN envoy to Yemen met President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi in Aden on Saturday in an effort to bring eight months of civil war to an end.
The UN hopes to organise talks between the two sides later this month.
On Saturday, attackers shot dead a prominent anti-terrorism court judge and his two sons and a military intelligence official in separate attacks.
Mr Hadi declared Aden to be Yemen’s temporary capital after coalition forces seized it from Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in July.
