The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has ordered the immediate closure of Badeggi FM Radio Station, accusing it of broadcasting content that breaches journalistic ethics and stirs unrest among citizens.
The decision was made public during an expanded APC caucus meeting at the Government House in Minna. There, Governor Bago accused the station of persistently encouraging anti-government narratives and directed that its broadcast license be withdrawn.
According to a statement by Bologi Ibrahim, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Bago expressed strong disapproval of the radio station’s operations, labeling them as dangerous and irresponsible.
“The daily activities of the radio station have been unethical,” the governor said. “The owner of the station has incited the people against the government. Therefore, the license of the radio station should be revoked.”
In response, the governor instructed the Commissioner for Homeland Security and the Commissioner of Police to seal off the premises and conduct a detailed investigation into the background of the station’s proprietor.
Bago also called on security agencies to take decisive action to neutralize what he considers threats to public order.
