The political landscape in Osun State has taken a dramatic turn as Governor Ademola Adeleke officially severs ties with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This decisive move adds a new layer of tension to the opposition party, which is already grappling with significant internal challenges.
A Decisive Exit
Governor Adeleke’s resignation is no longer a matter of speculation. On November 4, 2025, the governor formalized his exit by submitting his resignation letter to party leaders in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area.
According to the governor, his decision was driven by the worsening leadership crisis at the national level. He explained that the prolonged infighting has severely weakened the party’s stability, creating an environment where his continued membership no longer aligns with his political principles.
Gratitude for the Journey
Despite the bitter circumstances surrounding the party’s national leadership, Governor Adeleke took a moment to appreciate the platform the PDP provided during his rise to power. He acknowledged the unwavering support he received from party members during his time as a senator and his subsequent election as governor.
In his own words:
“Due to the current crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (@OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, on the 4th of November, 2025, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the leadership of the party in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North local government.
“I thanked the party and its numerous members and supporters for the opportunities given to me to use the platform for my elections as first a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and now as Governor of Osun State.”
What This Means for the Opposition
Adeleke’s departure is expected to trigger further complications for the PDP as it battles deep internal fractures. With political conversations across the country already heating up, this resignation marks a critical shift in the state’s power dynamics.
