Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially adopted the Accord Party as the vehicle for his re-election campaign in the upcoming 2026 governorship race.The formal declaration took place on Tuesday at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo, witnessed by both state and national party leaders.
The Timeline and Reason for Defection
Although the public announcement was made this week, Governor Adeleke disclosed that he had officially registered with the Accord Party on November 6, 2025, after extensive consultations with key opinion leaders and stakeholders.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor explained that the switch was motivated by a shared ideology, specifically the party’s dedication to social welfare.
He said:
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.”
Call for Unity
During the reception for party leaders, Adeleke stressed the importance of solidarity as the election approaches. He urged all members to remain cohesive and focused on an inclusive administration.
He stated:
“We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.”
Reflecting on his new political home, he added:
“The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership. The primary essence of government is the welfare and well-being of the people.”
Mobilizing the State
Governor Adeleke presented the Accord Party as the new political force for Osun, calling on residents from every zone West, East, and Central to rally behind the platform.
He declared:
“From Igbomina to Ijeshaland, Ifeland, Osogbo, Iwoland, Modakeke, Gbongan, Igbajo, Ikire, Ikirun, Ede and beyond, this is our party, our new platform for victory come August next year.”
Concluding his address, he formally cemented his realignment:
“In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and in deep respect for the wishes of Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party.”
