Nigerian recording artist, singer, songwriter, dancer and occasional actress, renowned for her eclectic musical expressions and captivating stage performances, Oyenike Laoye-Oturu, professionally known as Nikki Laoye and husband, Alex Oturu have separated after 6 years of marriage. The couple haven’t been seen together in public for a while and both have also been spotted without their wedding bands especially in recent pictures.
A family source said that they are no longer living together as they have been separated for about a year due to possible irreconcilable differences. The source added that they might have even begun divorce proceedings but have split on amicable terms and remain friends.
Nikki Laoye, who is also well known for her humanitarian work with the physically challenged and Libyan returnees, got married to Alex in a grand ceremony held in Lagos on the 11th of December, 2011. The couple don’t have any children together. No official statement has been given by the singer concerning this new development in their lives. Nikki once stated in an interview that things have not been easy with as a wife and a career woman but was very thankful to her husband who dabbles as her manager. She stated that she does a lot of things with her husband and attend all events with him attributing all the awards she has won to his support. Nikki noted that her husband understanding about her job and being her manager has help sustained her marriage from wrecking.
In her words with CityPeople magazine, “We actually go for a lot of events together because he happens to be on my management team, his name is Alex Oturu. We do a lot of things together, he works with me a lot, he is my manager. I have been busy a lot but then I find a way to schedule and then having my husband working with me on so many things has also helped my marriage and also makes it easier.”
