The Golden Eaglets have got a step closer to clinching their fourth Fifa Under-17 World Cup title after beating Uruguay 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Taiwo Awoniyi, to advance to the semi-finals of the competition.
Awoniyi scored in the 18th minute to put Nigeria in front after combining well with Kelechi Iheanacho.
Several chances were created by both teams but neither side was able to score as Nigeria took their advantage into the break.
The second half resumed with the Uruguayans intensifying the pressure on the Nigerian defence as they search for an equalizer.
But it was Nigeria who scored again in the 79th minute through Awoniyi to increase their lead
The Golden Eaglets look set to face Sweden in the semi-finals.
