Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been ordered by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high court to appear in court if there are any criminal accusations against him.
According to Arise News, the presiding judge, Hamza Muazu, stated that the former CBN governor should be freed on bail if he is not transported to a suitable court within a week.
According to Legit.ng, the troubled CBN chairman had challenged his arrest and incarceration by the DSS by filing a fundamental human rights lawsuit.
On June 10, just after President Bola Tinubu had dismissed him from office and ordered an inquiry into the CBN, the security agency had detained Emefiele.
Emefiele claims that his human rights have been violated in the lawsuit he filed before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja through his attorney, Joseph Daudu (SAN). He joined the DSS, the Director General of the DSS, and the Attorney General of the Federation as defendants in the lawsuit.
Emefiele requests that the court rule that the DSS’s detention and arrest of him were unlawful.
