Millions of users worldwide experienced disruptions as Meta’s key platforms—Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—suffered a significant outage.
Reports flooded social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), as users confirmed widespread issues, including difficulty accessing accounts and posting content.
Outage-tracking platform Downdetector recorded massive spikes in reports, with Instagram logging over 71,000 issues and Facebook exceeding 107,000 reports globally. Affected Facebook users reported seeing a message stating, “We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”
The outage sparked widespread conversations on X, with hashtags like #instagramdown trending as users turned to the platform to confirm the situation. Many users humorously shared their experiences, with Shay (@uloveshaaay) tweeting, “Every time Instagram or Facebook doesn’t work, I run to Twitter to see if it’s just me. Glad I’m not alone!” Similarly, Razi (@iamrazi18) posted, “Me running to Twitter to check if #WhatsApp #Facebook #Instagram is down or if it’s my internet.”
Reacting to the downtime, Meta acknowledged the issue in a post on X, stating, “We’re aware that a technical issue is affecting some users’ access to our apps. We’re working to resolve it as quickly as possible and apologize for the inconvenience.” Instagram and WhatsApp also issued updates, assuring users that they were actively working on restoring normal service.
This latest disruption adds to a series of outages that have impacted Meta’s services in recent months, including a significant service interruption in March. While Meta works to resolve the issue, users await further updates on when full functionality will be restored.
