Ghana’s president Johna Atta Mills is dead.
The 68-year-old who was suffering from throat cancer died today, few hours after taking ill.
A statement from his office confirmed the demise of the man who had been Ghana’s president since 2009 when he defeated Nana Addo in keenly contested election.
The dead president was to run for a second term in December.
