German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to visit Nigeria from December 10 to December 12, 2024, according to a statement released by the German Embassy on Monday.

During his time in Abuja, President Steinmeier will meet with Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Alieu Omar Touray.

After his engagements in Abuja, Steinmeier will head to Lagos, where he plans to interact with business leaders, visit a start-up hub, and connect with prominent figures in Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors, including Dr. Nike Okundaye and Prof. Wole Soyinka.

The statement added that the German President will explore Lagos to gain a deeper understanding of its urban development, including the environmental and social challenges faced by the city.

Accompanying President Steinmeier will be a delegation of CEOs and senior executives from some of Germany’s leading companies in IT, high-tech, and energy, reflecting Germany’s growing interest in investment opportunities in Nigeria.

“This visit highlights Nigeria’s significance as a political, economic, and cultural partner for Germany in Africa,” the embassy concluded.
