Renowned American actor George Wendt, best known for his iconic role as Norm Peterson on the NBC sitcom Cheers, has passed away at the age of 76.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by his publicist, Melissa Nathan, Wendt died peacefully in his sleep on May 20, 2025. The family has asked for privacy as they mourn the loss.
“George Wendt, the beloved actor and comedian who brought laughter to millions through Cheers, has died. He will be deeply missed,” the statement read.
