General Uba, the Brigade Commander stationed in Damboa, has been confirmed dead after ISWAP terrorists killed him, following hours of being declared missing in the forest.
Military insiders revealed that the commander had previously shared a video assuring everyone of his safety.
“He was okay,” they stated, noting that the footage was recorded before his condition deteriorated.
After some time, he reportedly became disoriented while navigating the forest.
Ground troops and air units launched several rescue operations in an effort to locate him.
At one point, the commander informed his team that he was already heading back to base, giving hope that he would be found quickly.
However, he was later captured again by the terrorists after news of his abduction spread widely online.
His death was eventually confirmed.
Earlier, the army had maintained that he had safely returned to base. The confirmation of his death has now sparked major concerns about the transparency and commitment of military authorities regarding the safety and well-being of soldiers on the front lines.
