All government appointees from the previous governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration have been fired by Abba Kabir Yusuf, the newly sworn-in Kano governor also known as Abba Gida Gida.
According to the Daily Trust, the governor personally signed a declaration on May 29, the day after taking office, directing
“all political appointees heading government MDAs and companies are hereby relieved of their appointment with immediate effect.”
Gida Abba Gida also instructed all security organizations to immediately take possession of all public properties that Ganduje’s administration had sold.
He also said that the properties should be taken over by the security forces, especially the Hisbah police, until his government made a final decision regarding them.
“I am announcing, today, that all these public places and assets that were immorally plundered and sold by the Ganduje administration should be taken over by law enforcement agencies, led by the Police, the DSS, Civil Defense, and Hisbah pending the final decision of the government.”
The governor went on to say that the assets he was referring to included cemeteries and green spaces, grounds near and around schools, along Kano’s city wall, as well as locations associated with religion and culture, as well as hospitals and clinics.
He continued by saying that the state government’s other assets and real properties, both inside and outside of Kano, had been sold to the former governor’s associates and agents.
As the governor reportedly rejected the idea of utilizing the chair Ganduje was initially using, this would be his second attempt to take down his immediate predecessor in a 24-hour period.
