Nigerians are expressing their displeasure over the attendance of Toke Makinwa, IBD Dende, and Seyi Tinubu at the COP28 summit in Dubai. The Federal Government released a list of 1,411 attendees sponsored by President Bola Tinubu. However, the inclusion of certain names on the list has caused outrage among most Nigerians. The summit, which is also known as the 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is being hosted by the United Arab Emirates from November 30 to December 12.
Toke Makinwa, a media personality, has posted her attendance at the summit on her verified Instagram profile on December 2, 2023. She has promised to keep her fans updated on the proceedings of the summit as they develop.
Critics have denounced the inclusion of entertainment industry personalities in Nigeria’s team for the summit, arguing that it damages the country’s credibility when it comes to participating in international gatherings. They have also expressed concerns about the apparent misuse of public funds for politically motivated and frivolous actions.
Nigerians are calling for accountability and transparency in the selection of attendees for such international events. They want deserving candidates who can significantly contribute to the conversation on climate change to be prioritized over individuals who may not have the necessary expertise.
