The Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have decided to initiate a nationwide strike on October 3, 2023.
The Federal Government’s failure to successfully implement policies to lessen Nigerians’ suffering led the organized labor unions to come to this decision on Tuesday.
Following the termination of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, the organized labor organizations had made demands to the Federal Government.
The NLC and the TUC are requesting, among other things, salary increases, the introduction of palliatives, tax breaks and allowances for public sector employees, and a review of the minimum wage.
During a virtual National Executive Council meeting via Zoom on Tuesday, NEC members heard from NLC National President Joe Ajaero that a meeting with TUC leaders had taken place to discuss next steps.
Ajaero stated that it was decided that the two centers should collaborate in order to communicate their position to the administration.
According to a meeting observer who spoke with Punch, some NLC members at first opposed the organization’s decision to collaborate with the TUC.
The insider stated, “At first, some members opposed working with the TUC, but as of right now, we have no alternative. Government has not taken any initiative. Therefore, this time, it will be a firm action.
