Nigerian rapper CDQ recently shared the reason behind his decision to leave his banking job to pursue music full-time. Speaking in an interview with Echo Room, CDQ revealed he initially entered the banking sector to fulfill his late father’s wishes. However, the job left him uninspired, and he often found himself writing lyrics during office hours instead of focusing on work.
He recalled living with music producer Masterkraft at the time, who supported him by lending him clothes for his banking job. Eventually, CDQ resigned without informing his family and moved in with Masterkraft to focus on music. He explained that music was his true passion, regardless of the financial outcome.
CDQ convinced Masterkraft to go all-in on music, predicting success within six months. Their breakthrough came even sooner after landing a major deal that allowed them to move from the streets to a more comfortable life in Lekki.
He rose to fame in 2016 after releasing his hit track “Indomie,” featuring Masterkraft and Olamide. A remix featuring Davido helped solidify his place in the Nigerian music scene.
