Four killed as ‘cultists’ clash in Ilorin

Four persons were killed in Ilorin during a fight that broke out between members of two rival cult groups in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

The clash occurred at Babako, Ita-Amodu and Agbo-Oba areas of Ilorin metropolis between Saturday night and 4 am on Sunday.

The clash heightened tension in the affected areas while residents scampered for safety.

A witness account told NAN that at the end of the clash, four persons, including a 20- year-old boy, were shot.

The witness, who requested anonymity, said members of ‘Aiye’ Confraternity first struck at Baboko around 9:.30pm on Saturday, killing two persons.

He said at the end of the operation at Baboko, the suspected cultists headed for Ita-Amodu and Agbo-0ba areas of the capital on revenge mission.

Ajayi Okasanmi, spokesman of the state police command, confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm to you that one person has been killed by the suspected cultists and this happened at Babaoko area of Ilorin,” he said.

“Men of the state police command has taken his corpse to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.”

Okasanmi warned cultists to stay away from the state, saying anyone caught would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Last Sunday, a boy simply identified as Wasiu was killed at the Ikokoro/Sakamo area of the city.
