Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, who was the elder sister of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has passed away at the age of 70. She passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, after a brief illness. The announcement of her death was made by Jonathan’s media office on Thursday. According to the statement, Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, who was also known as Amissi, was a retired teacher, businesswoman, mother, and grandmother who dedicated her life to serving God and humanity. The statement also described her as a devout Christian, a virtuous woman, and a role model to many both within and outside her community. The burial ceremony has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, 2024, and the family will announce the details of the funeral rites. Madam Obebhatein Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including Jonathan, and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan.
