The police claimed that at a gay wedding ceremony in Delta State, their agents detained at least 100 individuals.
It stated that the suspects would soon be paraded in a tweet on Tuesday.
Recall that President Goodluck Jonathan implemented Nigeria’s anti-gay law in January 2014, which imposes a 14-year prison sentence for individuals found guilty of having sex with someone of the same sex.
With the police arresting 47 men in a hotel in Lagos the year before, the law was used for the first time in December 2019. The individuals were charged with openly showing their admiration for people of the same sex.
For staging a gay wedding in Delta, police detain 100 people.
The suspects were all given bail after entering not guilty pleas. Due to the police’s lack of diligent prosecution, the case was ultimately dismissed.
