Former world number one, Roger Federer, displayed an impressive performance today at the Australian Open with a 6-3,7-5,6-4 demolition of Frenchman Jo Wilfred Tsonga.
It took the number 6 seed just 112 minutes to see off Tsonga, who used to be a thorn in Federer’s flesh. This seems to be a great start to Roger’s 2014 ambitions. With this win over Tsonga, Federer will be playin in his 41st grand slam quarter-final, equalling the record of American Jimmy Connors in the professional era.
He’ll play Andy Murray for a chance to reach the Semi finals.
Other winners are Slovakia’s Dominika Cibulkova who upset Maria Sharapova to reach the quarterfinals. Victoria Azarenka, also trashed America’s Sloane Stephens while Halep beat Jelena Jankovic to reach the quarterfinal.
Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray were also winners today.
