On Friday, a fully loaded petrol tanker caught fire in Ugwuoba, a border town in Enugu State that is home to the Hausa community.
According to a source, the incident occurred at noon when a leak in the tanker caused a fire to erupt.
The fire, however, was quickly put out by Anambra firemen who arrived on the scene and battled the flames.
Mr Martin Agbili, chief firefighter in Anambra, who confirmed the incident, said the fire was effectively put out after a fight by men of the command.
“At about 1100hrs (11am) of today 28-10-2022, Anambra State Fire Service, Awka, Nigeria received a distress call of petrol tanker fire along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway beside Ugwuoba Garki Market, Enugu State.
“The fully loaded tanker with 35,000 litres of petrol was parked along the road and suddenly it caught fire due to the petrol leakage from the top of the tank through direct sunlight.
“The tanker was saved, and the fire was also prevented from entering inside the main petrol tank. There was no loss of life.”
