FIFA President Gianni Infantino has addressed the possibility of Canadian music superstar Drake headlining the first-ever Halftime Show at the 2026 World Cup Final.
According to NAIJALOG, FIFA recently revealed that it is collaborating with Coldplay’s lead vocalist, Chris Martin, to curate a Super Bowl-style halftime performance for the tournament’s final next year.
During an interview with Fox5, Infantino reacted positively to the suggestion of Drake as the debut headliner, calling it a “good idea”.
A co-host suggested, “I have a great idea for the halftime show—Drake! Since Kendrick Lamar performed at the Super Bowl…”
Infantino responded, “So we can create a bit of rivalry, right? That’s a good idea. Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities… We’ll make it happen.”
The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which will be temporarily renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the event. The match is set for July 19, 2026.
Additionally, FIFA is planning a major takeover of Times Square for the tournament’s final weekend, as the competition will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
