The Federal Government has launched an emergency helpline, 112, to combat the rising cases of kidnapping in Nigeria.
This toll-free number enables citizens to report kidnappings and other security threats.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Major General Adamu Laka, highlighted the initiative’s importance. He stated that the Nigerian Communications Commission had facilitated the introduction of the 112 emergency response number. He urged Nigerians to use this service to report crimes, suspicious activities, and kidnappings. Additionally, the Multi-Agency Anti-Kidnap Fusion Cell will provide dedicated contact numbers for public use.
Laka emphasized that kidnapping for ransom remains a serious challenge, requiring collective efforts and intensified strategies. While notable progress was made in 2024, he stressed the need for continuous commitment and innovative solutions to tackle the problem in 2025.
