FG grants 12 tertiary institutions N95 billion, NUC lifts suspension on 3 varsities

The  Federal Government  has given a grant of totaling N95 billion to a university and a polytechnic from each of the six geo -poltical zones in the country.

The 6 universities and 6 polytechnic that are to benefit from this largess are : University of Lagos and the Polytechnic Ibadan for South West; Anambra State University, Uli, and Alvan Ikoku College of Education for South East; University of Calabar and Delta State College of Education, Agbor, for South-South; while Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero, and Federal Polytechnic, Kauran Namoda, were selected from the North West zone.

 

Others include Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, and Bauchi State College of Education, Azare, for North East; as well as Benue State University, Makurdi and Federal Polytechnic, Nassarawa, for North Central.

 

The money is being given to the various tetiary institution so that they can improve  their teaching and learning environment.

 

Minister of Education, Ruqqayatu Rufa’I, announced this at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) annual strategic planning workshop in Abuja on Tuesday, stressing that the allocated fund was meant for programme upgrade and improvement of the teaching and learning environment.

 

Each of the universities, she explained, was allocated N3 billion while each of the polytechnics and colleges of education got N1 billion.

 

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Universities Commision has lifted the technical ban it placed on three out of the seven universities it earlier axed.

 

According to the NUC Bulletin the universities are the Joseph Ayo Babalola University, (JABU), Ikeji-Arakeji in Osun, the Achiever’s University, Owo also in Osun and Tansian University at Umunya, Anambra.

 

The Commission said the suspension was lifted because of the corrective measures taken by the universities to rectify the infractions leading to the suspension of their operational licenses.

 

The bulletin said that NUC would soon send a team to conduct fresh forensic audit on the other private universities, whose licenses were earlier suspended.

 

The six universities earlier suspended are: Madonna University, Okija; Achiever’s University, Owo; and Tansian University, Umunya.

 

Others listed by the commission are Caritas University, Amorji-Nike, Enugu, Lead City University, Ibadan, and Joseph Ayo Babalola University, (JABU), Ikeji- Arakeji, Osun.
