The Federal Government and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have dismissed rumors circulating on social media about the cancellation of the 2025 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) and the invalidation of results.

In separate responses, both the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC labeled the claims as false and baseless, urging the public to disregard them. Speaking to Vanguard, Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, emphasized that there is no truth to the report, adding that the Ministry will issue an official clarification soon. She confirmed that no decision has been made to cancel the exam or nullify any results.

WAEC also issued a formal rebuttal through its Public Relations Officer, Moyosola Adesina, stating that the viral press release being shared online was fabricated. The fake document falsely claimed that WAEC and the Ministry of Education had canceled the exams due to widespread cheating, exam material leaks, and the use of AI tools to cheat.

WAEC strongly denied authoring such a statement, calling it the work of troublemakers aiming to spread fear and discredit the examination body. The council confirmed that the marking of scripts has been completed and that results will be released on or before August 4, 2025.

Furthermore, WAEC reminded the public that all legitimate announcements are made through its verified social media accounts and accredited media platforms. It also discredited a fake quote from a non-existent official named “Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Lawal,” falsely identified as the Director-General of a so-called Federal Examinations Regulatory Board.

The council assured candidates that their exam results remain valid and intact and encouraged everyone to remain calm and ignore the circulating misinformation.
