FORMER Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has backed Ryan Giggs to become the club’s next permanent manager

Giggs, 40, took temporary charge of the club on Tuesday following the sacking of David Moyes who paid the ultimate price for a poor season.

Ferguson who has worked with Giggs for over two decades believes the Welshman would do a good job at Old Trafford if given the chance.

Giggs is a huge underdog in the race to land the job due his lack of experience but Ferguson believes that United legend should be given a chance to manage the Red Devils.

The former United chief thinks Giggs is the right man for the job as he knows the club inside out and knows what is required to be successful at Old Trafford.

He said: “I think that he is the one man they should go to really.

“He’s got 20-odd years of experience at Manchester United.

“I signed him as a kid at 13 years of age.

“He’s gone through the gamut of emotions at the club – he’s experienced all the highs and lows.

“He knows exactly what’s needed to be a Manchester United player and I was so pleased he brought Paul Scholes back in, and Nicky Butt of course – two great professionals.

“They understand the club, they are hard workers, they are straight as a die. So you have got the right combinations there, there’s no doubt about that.”
