After resigning, the five-time Representative has assumed his position as President Bola Tinubu’s chief of staff, according to Channels TV.
On Wednesday, June 14, the newly elected speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, reads the letter of resignation from his predecessor on the floor of the parliament.
In order to concentrate on the work ahead under the new Tinubu government, it was previously revealed that the speaker of the 10th House of Representatives will have to resign from his position as a member of the 10th parliament.
Before now, there have been questions about how Gbajabiamila would handle the dual responsibilities of serving as Chief of Staff and a legislator at the same time because he was sworn in with his colleagues on Tuesday, June 13, and took part in electing the new House leaders.
Abbas reported that a member of the house who represents Surulere 1 had submitted his resignation, and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will likely hold a new election to fill the vacancy.
Gbajabiamila had previously stated in his acceptance address when he was originally revealed to take up the role by the President that he will rejoin the office of the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu on June 14.
