Media personality Daddy Freeze has weighed in on the heated debate comparing modern superstar Wizkid to the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, insisting that the two operate on entirely different levels of impact.
Seun Kuti vs. Wizkid
The conversation was ignited by a recent online feud between Fela’s son, Seun Kuti, and Wizkid. After Seun criticized fans for comparing the “Essence” crooner to his father, Wizkid fired back, controversially claiming he is “far better” and “bigger” than the legendary musician.
Freeze’s Verdict: Activism Defines Legacy
Daddy Freeze argued that Fela’s influence transcends music, rooted deeply in his active resistance against political oppression and the severe personal sacrifices he endured. He noted that while Wizkid is a musical giant, Fela built his legacy on courage, frequent arrests, and a willingness to risk everything for the freedoms of others elements that are absent in modern comparisons.
He stated:
“Until Wizkid is ready to stand up and carry stones to Government House, he shouldn’t compare himself to Fela. Fela put his skin in the game. Fela wasn’t a troublemaker; he was a freedom fighter. agitation and music go and together, you can’t separate the two. Fela went to jail fighting for our right”.
