On Monday, April 22, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) conducted a raid on a Chinese supermarket in Abuja. This was in response to reports that Nigerians were being denied entry into the store.
Following the incident, Nigerians expressed their outrage on social media, criticizing the management of the Chinese supermarket in Abuja for their discriminatory policies.
The supermarket, which is located along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Road in the Federal Capital Territory, is famous for its Chinese cuisine and beverages. However, it has been reported that access to the store is limited to Chinese individuals only.
Shaibu Sanusi, the facility manager of the complex, confirmed that Nigerians from outside the complex are not allowed to shop there. However, those who reside within the complex are permitted to enter the store for shopping purposes.
The FCCPC has raised concerns that some individuals may be hiding inside the store to avoid interaction with the agency, as the store remains closed.
