The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied any involvement in investigating allegations of a ₦180 million fraud linked to an NGO owned by popular social media personality Martins Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
In a statement on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, clarified that the FCT Police Command has no information regarding the case and is not conducting any related investigation.
She stated, “The FCT Police Command is not aware of any case involving the missing funds allegedly connected to VDM’s NGO. The matter was not reported to us, and there are no records of such a case in our jurisdiction. Those concerned should contact the individual for clarification on where the issue was reported.”
On Friday, Otse shared a video on Instagram claiming that ₦180 million had been unlawfully transferred from his NGO’s account, leaving a balance of just ₦20 million.
“I’ve been deeply unsettled these past few days,” he explained. “Our NGO’s website was hacked, and ₦180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve identified the perpetrator, and one suspect is already in custody. The account has been placed on PND (Post No Debit). Out of ₦180 million, ₦160 million was diverted, and we’re heading to Jos to recover the funds.”
Despite Otse’s allegations, some individuals have expressed doubts about the authenticity of his claims, raising questions about the incident’s credibility.
