Linda De Sousa Abreu, a former prison officer at HMP Wandsworth in the UK, has been sentenced to 15 months in jail following the release of a compromising video involving an inmate.
Reports reveal that the 30-year-old was caught on camera engaging in inappropriate conduct with a prisoner. The footage, discovered on her prison-issued body-worn camera, led to her arrest.
Abreu was detained at Heathrow Airport while attempting to board a flight to Madrid with her father. She subsequently pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office and engaging in sexual activity with an inmate.
The incident was uncovered by a senior staff member, leading to an internal investigation.
A spokesperson for the Prison Service stated:
“While the vast majority of our staff are dedicated and trustworthy, we are increasing efforts to identify and hold accountable the few who violate the rules. This includes enhancing our Counter Corruption Unit and strengthening vetting procedures.”
The case highlights the Prison Service’s commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability within the system.
