Former Arsenal forward Billy Vigar has tragically passed away at the age of 21 following a “significant brain injury” sustained during a match.
The incident happened on Saturday during Chichester City’s clash with Wingate & Finchley, when Vigar reportedly collided with a concrete wall while trying to prevent the ball from going out of play.
He was immediately placed in an induced coma, and the game was abandoned after just 13 minutes.
In a statement, his family said:
“After sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy Vigar was put in an induced coma.
On Tuesday he needed an operation to aid any chances of recovery. Although this helped, the injury proved too much for him and he passed away on Thursday morning.”
Vigar had been part of Arsenal’s academy since age 14, signing his first professional deal with the club in July 2022. He also trained with the senior squad at 16 and featured for both the U-18 and U-21 teams.
