Contrary to reports that Cristiano Ronaldo tossed the microphone of a TV reporter into a lake because of frustration ahead of Portugal’s Euro 2016 final group game against Hungary, the Real Madrid superstar did so for an entirely different reason.
Ronaldo tossed the reporter’s equipment into the lake near Portugal’s team hotel in Lyon, France because he was reportedly from a TV station that the Portugal captain had had legal battle with in the past over invasion of his privacy.
According to fresh reports from France, the reporter and microphone belonged to CMTV, a Portuguese station which Ronaldo once sued and won a case against on grounds of invasion of privacy, and has boycotted the station since 2014.
This is also contrary to reports that Ronaldo flared up after being asked whether he had seen his rival Lionel Messi score a sensational free-kick last night to become Argentina’s record goalscorer.
Portugal take on Hungary tonight knowing that they must win to progress at the tournament in France. Should they finish second they will play Roy Hodgson’s England in the Last 16 on Monday.
