Emeka Ugwuonye, the legal representative of Nollywood actress May Edochie, has officially withdrawn from her divorce case against actor Yul Edochie. The announcement was made by his law firm, Due Process Advocates (DPA), via their official Facebook page.
The firm revealed that ongoing harassment and cyberbullying from supporters of May—commonly referred to as the “May Nation”—had created a toxic environment, making it impossible for them to continue providing legal services effectively.
In their statement, DPA emphasized that despite supporting May in her legal fight, the behavior of some of her fans made the situation both ethically and professionally challenging.
“DPA’s services to Queen May have come to an end. The hostile environment fostered by certain individuals within the ‘May Nation’ group has made it untenable for us to continue effective representation.”
They further stated:
“Ethically, pursuing action against those who bullied Queen May becomes profoundly difficult when her own supporters exhibit comparable, if not greater, hostility. Consequently, we had no choice but to withdraw.”
The firm also made it clear that they continue to stand by May as a victim of betrayal and emotional abuse, reaffirming their opposition to forced polygamy and their belief in equal rights for women.
DPA promised to cooperate fully with May’s next legal team to ensure a seamless transition and expressed their commitment to holding accountable those behind the targeted harassment—specifically naming a person operating under the alias “Judy Obasiyul Autisn”, believed to be a leader within the “May Nation” group.
Despite the withdrawal, DPA stated that they remain dedicated to upholding their ethical obligations to May even after ending their formal representation.
