The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has directed all churches and mosques in the state to remove their outdoor loudspeakers within 90 days and implement soundproofing within their worship centers. This decision was announced on Thursday, August 15, during a stakeholders’ meeting with religious leaders, government officials, and media representatives.
Governor Mbah’s directive is part of efforts to tackle noise pollution in the state. The Chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, Uche Anya, explained that the move was prompted by over 1,000 complaints received about excessive noise from various religious and business establishments.
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some praising the initiative and others expressing concerns.
The ultimatum was given during a collaborative session organized by the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority to discuss the implementation of the state’s Anti-Noise Pollution Policy.
