Popular Nigerian influencer and media figure, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, has sparked conversation online after criticizing the early scheduling of the ongoing JAMB examinations.
His comments followed reports of a young female JAMB candidate who went missing and was later found in Ijebu Ode nearly 24 hours after her disappearance.
Speaking out on social media, the 25-year-old slammed what he described as Nigeria’s culture of “anyhowness,” questioning the logic behind scheduling exams as early as 6:30 am.
Enioluwa voiced concerns over the safety, mental readiness, and overall wellbeing of the mostly teenage candidates, many between the ages of 14 and 17, who are required to sit for the exams at such early hours.
“My biggest issue with Nigeria is the casual, careless way things are handled. It’s so ingrained that when you question someone’s actions, they often have no reasonable explanation,” Enioluwa said.
He criticized the policy as poorly planned, noting that asking students to wake up around 5 a.m. for a high-stakes examination is insensitive, particularly given the country’s security and transportation challenges.
Enioluwa also questioned whether any research had been conducted to determine the optimal exam times for students, emphasizing that the realities of insecurity and unreliable public transportation should have been factored into the decision.
“I’ve seen people joking online about students going missing after leaving home for JAMB exams. It’s funny until it’s not — until real lives are at stake. Can we please engage our brains a little and take this seriously?” he urged.
