The Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Usman Abubakar, yesterday died in London, England. He was 76. Burial arrangements will commence as soon as his remains are brought to Gombe State.
The late Shehu Abubakar was the 10th emir of the Gombe emirate.
Born in 1938 as the fifth son of the Emir of Gombe, Mallam Abubakar Umar, Abubakar had his secondary school at the Barewa College, Zaria, in 1966.
Alhaji Abubakar was a seasoned administrator and served as permanent secretary and twice as a member of the National University Commission (NUC). He was also the chairman of the Gombe State Council of Emirs and Chiefs since 1984 and was instrumental to the struggle for the creation of Gombe State.
