The governor of Anambra state, Charles Soludo, has advised residents to continue doing business with old naira notes and to report any bank that refuses to accept them.
The governor revealed this in a Facebook post on Monday, March 13, according to The Punch, adding that the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, confirmed the development to him.
According to Soludo, Emefiele confirmed that money deposit banks would dispense and accept customers’ old N200, N500, and N1000 notes.
The governor also stated that depositors must generate deposit codes, and that individuals or businesses may deposit as many times as they wish.
Part of his statement reads:
“The Governor of the CBN gave the directive at a Bankers’ Committee meeting held on Sunday, 12th March 2023. The Governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, personally confirmed the above to me during a phone conversation on Sunday night.”
