The Edo State governorship election will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to Naija News, INEC made this announcement on Tuesday in a statement on X that was signed by Sam Olumekun, the chairman of the Publicity and Voter Committee.
The electoral body also established a date for the Ondo state governorship election: Saturday, November 16, 2024.
The announcement, according to INEC, is in accordance with Section 178 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), which states that elections for the aforementioned offices must take place no earlier than 150 days and no later than 30 days prior to the tenure of the previous occupant expiring.
In accordance with INEC, the final candidate list will be released on April 23, 2024, and political parties will begin their public campaigning on April 24, 2024, and complete it on April 22, 2024, the day before election day.
The electoral body said that the terms of the governors of the states of Edo and Ondo would expire on November 11, 2024, and February 23, 2025, respectively.
In order to ensure strict compliance, INEC urged political parties and candidates to take note of the events in the schedule.
