The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on Nigerians to avoid jumping to conclusions regarding the recent allegations of Naira abuse involving Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
This follows the circulation of a viral video from Tompolo’s 54th birthday celebration, in which he was seen dancing while another individual sprayed bundles of ₦1,000 notes around him.
The footage ignited widespread reactions online, with many social media users demanding the EFCC take action to demonstrate impartiality in enforcing the law.
In an interview with TVC, Olukoyede confirmed that Tompolo has been invited by the EFCC for questioning over the incident.
However, he urged the public not to presume guilt, noting that the investigation is still ongoing.
He also disclosed that the video in question has been forwarded for forensic analysis due to concerns it may have been altered or manipulated.
“We have invited Tompolo—every Nigerian is aware of that—and we’ve made it clear that no one is above the law,” Olukoyede stated.
“But it’s important not to judge him prematurely. At this stage, the allegations are still unproven. We’re reviewing the video because in today’s world, videos can be doctored or taken out of context.
“Until the investigation is concluded, we cannot determine guilt or innocence. Everyone deserves a fair hearing and the benefit of the doubt,” he added.
