The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission announced on Monday that it has re-arrested businessman Stephen Akpa, who is located in Abuja, for a suspected N500 million fraud.
This was revealed by the commission in a statement released on its website by its Media and Publicity division.
The commission claims that Akpa was first detained on December 2, 2022, in his office in the Idu neighborhood of Abuja in response to a petition alleging that he had obtained N500 million through deceptive means.
It also stated that the suspect skipped his scheduled arraignment on five counts by jumping the administrative bail that had been issued to him.
According to the commission, all attempts to apprehend the suspect had been unsuccessful, and he has now gone on the run.
In response to a petition stating that he had collected the sum of N 500,000,000 under false pretense, Akpa was first detained by the commission on December 2, 2022, at his office in the Idu axis of Abuja, according to the statement.He was going to be charged with five counts after he refused to pay the administrative bail that the commission had provided.He remained evasive until August 9, 2023, when he was taken into custody again.
“He’s going to be charged in court soon.”
