The EFCC stirred up a significant controversy on social media when they conducted a raid on hostels at OAU at 2 am this morning, apprehending over 60 male students without a valid search warrant.
This law enforcement agency has been making headlines due to their frequent late-night raids, and Leo DaSilva criticized them following their search at his grandmother’s residence.
Today, they targeted two OAU hostels, namely ‘Fine Touch’ and ‘Superb Hostels,’ to detain young men suspected of involvement in online fraud.
The university’s student union government took to social media to strongly denounce this action, emphasizing that it violates principles of justice and due process.
Numerous individuals on the internet have expressed their outrage and dissatisfaction regarding the EFCC’s actions, and they have initiated trending hashtags to demand the release of the detained students.
Here are some of the comments:
@AZolatunji1 said: If Efcc can operate like criminals without any repercussion, when will real kidnappers not start raiding hostels in the middle of the night pretending to be Efcc… There must be consequences for this madness tbh
@AgboObinnaya said: Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies operate like thieves.
@Sheunfunmmie64 wrote: This is actually outrageous and condemnable. You have no right to burgle into students hall of residence in the dead of a night and start packing everyone on sight.

We strongly condemn the recent unjust arrest and harassment of our fellow students by members of the EFCC @officialEFCC in the odd hours of today, Nov 1st, 2023. This action is unacceptable and goes against the principles of justice and due process.#OAUTwitter #FreeOAUStudents pic.twitter.com/743d9r3i1G
