The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially charged former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, in connection with an alleged N2.2 billion corruption scandal. He appeared before Justice Mariam Hassan at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gwarinpa.
Ngige, who also served as a former governor of Anambra State, arrived at the court premises at approximately 8:10 am, escorted by EFCC operatives.
Details of the Charges
The charges, filed on December 9 under suit number FCT/HC/CR/726/2025, consist of eight counts. The prosecution is being led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Sylvanus Tahir, with Ngige listed as the sole defendant.
The anti-graft agency alleges that the offenses occurred during Ngige’s tenure as Minister of Labour under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Count One: Accuses Ngige of abusing his position as the supervising Minister of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) between September 2015 and May 2023. He is alleged to have improperly awarded seven contracts worth ₦366,470,920.68 for consultancy, training, and supply to Cezimo Nigeria Limited, a company reportedly linked to his associate, Ezebinwa Amarachukwu Charles.

Count Two: Raises similar allegations, accusing him of favoring another company, Zitacom Nigeria Limited, also allegedly linked to the same associate, during his oversight of the NSITF.
