Veteran Nigerian rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem, has spoken out following the Federal Government’s ban on his latest song, Tell Your Papa, which criticizes President Bola Tinubu.
According to the NAIJALOG, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) prohibited the track on Thursday, deeming it “offensive.”
In response, Abdulkareem took to Instagram Thursday evening, condemning the move as a clear effort by the government to silence dissent and suppress the truth.
Drawing parallels to the 2004 ban of his famous protest anthem Jaga Jaga, the rapper criticized the Tinubu-led administration, calling it “vindictive” and “insensitive.”
He shared a copy of the NBC directive regarding his song and expressed his frustration, writing:
“It’s clear that in Nigeria, speaking the truth or offering constructive criticism is treated as a serious offense by the government.
“This administration, under President Bola Tinubu, is quickly establishing itself as one of the most heartless, retaliatory, and harmful regimes Nigeria has ever seen.
“They are now instructing media outlets to cover up the truth—to hide the candle under the table. Is it any wonder the country continues to struggle? The conscience is an open wound, and only the truth can heal it.”
