American comedian and actor Eddie Murphy has announced that he is collaborating with rapper, Snoop Lion in his upcoming album, The Red Light.
The 52-year-old, who became popular following for his roles in The Nutty Professor and the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, flirted with music back in the eighties and has dusted off his microphone ahead of his latest foray.
In the album, which will have a smooth reggae track, the pair croon about the world’s troubles and life in Zion, a place defined in scriptural texts, more specifically in Rastafari faith, where the holy dwell and God has His throne.
Murphy sings and plays guitar on the track and Snoop also contributes a verse to the reggae song.Murphy released single Party All the Time in the late eighties and a 1993 album, Love’s Alright, featuring Michael Jackson on one track. His first and biggest hit by a wide margin is “Party All the Time” (1985), written with Rick James. The song, from his first album How Could It Be, was a commercial success, reaching No. 2 on the Hot 100.
He was also the subject of plenty of mockery for his first two albums, but his biggest failure was 1993’s psychedelic Love’s Alright, which featured covers of U2 (“One”), the Beatles (“Good Day Sunshine”), and more, plus an all-star single for charity.The official music video for Red Light will be released September 9.
